Renton Recognizes Special Olympics Athletes

75 athletes from Renton's Special Populations Programs participated in the Washington Special Olympics 2011 summer games at Joint Base Lewis-McChord.

Earlier this month, 75 athletes from Renton's Special Populations Programs participated in the Washington Special Olympics 2011 summer games at Joint Base Lewis-McChord. 

The event, which ran from June 3-5, drew roughly 2,300 athletes, 2,500 volunteers, 3,000 family and friends, and 550 coaches from around Washington state to this year's games.

Mayor Denis Law and the Renton City Council recognized the athletes' achievements with a proclamation and short presentation. The Athletes participated in cycling, softball, basketball, bowling, soccer, and track and field, among other sports.
