Maplewood Heights Elementary Recognized As 2011 School Of Distinction

School among the state's top 5 percent improving on state math and reading tests over 5-year period.

has been named a 2011 School of Distinction for their work to continuously improve student success on state standardized tests.

The award, presented by the Center for Educational Effectiveness, places Maplewood among the top 5 percent of schools in the state and recognizes students’ sustained improvements on reading and math assessments over a five-year period.

Maplewood students scored nearly 90% on the last year’s fourth-grade reading test; up from 81 percent five years ago. Third-grade math scores last year were over 83 percent; up from 76 percent in 2006.

Maplewood Heights is one of only 99 schools statewide to receive the award presented by CEE, the Association of Educational Service Districts, the Association of Washington School Principals, Phi Delta Kappa-Washington chapter, Washington Association of School Administrators, Washington State Association for Supervision and Curriculum Development and Washington State School Directors’ Association.

This is the fourth annual Schools of Distinction award given by The Center for Educational Effectiveness and Phi Delta Kappa, Washington State Chapter.
