Main Avenue Construction To Run Through July

Watermain replacement project has hit a snag, will take longer than expected.

WHAT: Both southbound lanes of Main Avenue South, from South 4th Street to City Hall, will be closed to traffic to allow for construction of 1500 feet of a water main in Main Avenue South and Benson Road South. The new 16-inch diameter water main will replace the last remaining portion of the existing aging pipe. In 2010, WSDOT replaced a portion of the old water line as part of the I-405 Stage 2 widening project to accommodate the construction of the new freeway off-ramp and the realignment of Benson Road South.

WHEN: Construction began June 20, and will take place from 8:30 a.m. to 3:30 p.m., Mondays through Fridays. Both southbound lanes will be closed between 7 a.m. and 3:30 p.m. and traffic must use a detour route; the curb-side lane will be closed 24-hours a day through the end of July. Construction is expected to last through early September.

WHERE: Main Ave South and Benson Road South southbound, between South 4th Street and Renton City Hall, will be closed to traffic during construction, and will be detoured through Williams Avenue South.
