Renton Teens Injured By Wrong-Way Seattle Driver On I-5
A Seattle driver headed the wrong way on I-5 injured five Renton teens in a head-on collision.
Drugs or alcohol were a factor in an early morning crash on Interstate 5 in which a 26-year-old driver crashed head-on with a car full of Renton teens, according to the Washington State Patrol.
Mewded Equbay, a 26-year-old Seattle driver headed the wrong way on Interstate 5, crashed his 2000 Honda Civic head-on into a 2004 Hyundai Elantra driven by a Renton teen. The accident occurred after Equbay drove north in the Southbound lane of I-5 near the intersection of I-405 in Tukwila at 3:28 a.m. on Sunday. Both cars were totaled.
The 17-year-old driver and three passengers, also 17-year-old boys, sustained minor injuries and were taken to Valley Medical Center. A 16-year-old girl, also a passenger of the Huyndai, was taken to Harborview Medical Center for her injuries.

The accident is still under investigation and Equbay is charged with vehicular assault, according to a report from the Washington State Patrol.
