Renton Fire And Emergency Services Goes "Passionately Pink"

Renton Firefighters will wear pink from Oct. 24-26 to raise awareness of breast cancer.

Renton Fire and Emergency Services isn’t afraid to show its support for women and men battling breast cancer, and they’re doing so by wearing pink.

Instead of the normal navy blue uniform shirt, all participating personnel will wear pink T-shirts from Oct. 24-26 in honor of Breast Cancer Awareness Month. This is the department’s second year participating in the campaign.

It is a way to give hope and encouragement to millions all over the world, said a statement from the department. Cancer is a very real concern for the profession, and according to a resolution from the International Association of Fire Fighters, there is a proven correlation between fire fighting and an increased risk of cancer.

Proceeds from the T-shirt sales, purchased by participating members, will benefit a cancer support charity of the department’s choice.

Renton Fire and Emergency Services is among 40 emergency service organizations associated with the International Association of Fire Fighters to participate in the awareness campaign.
