UPDATE: Late Morning Fire Burns Index Court Home

All five residents escaped without injury.

Update: Friday, August 31 at 2:35 p.m.

"The fire appears to have started in the kitchen as a pan that caught fire and extended into the attic," according to fire investigators. "The damage estimate is $100,000 property loss and $20,000 loss of contents."

"The message from this fire is to not step away from anything cooking on the stove for any length of time, especially if there is oil or grease in the pan," wrote Battalion Chief Bill Flora in an email to Patch.

All five residents of a house in the 800 block of Index Court got out of their burning home without injury late Friday morning.

Renton Fire and Emergency Services responded to find flames inside the one-story house. In all, Renton ladder 11, engine 12, engine14, engine 16, aid 12, Fire District 20 engine 22, East Side Fire and Rescue engine 78, medic 5, both Renton Battalion Chiefs, Chaplain Allan Folmar and fire investigators responded to the scene.

The Red Cross will assist the family with the transition into temporary housing.

The cause of the blaze is under investigation and the amount of damage is still unknown. Patch will update this story with more information after investigators determine the cause and extend of damage.
