Family of Eight Displaced by Early Morning Fire in Highlands Home

All eight people escaped the blaze without injury.

Four adults and four children escaped an early Monday morning house fire that began shortly after midnight.

While Renton Fire and Emergency Services responded to the call at 675 Harrington Ave. NE, the Renton Police Department closed Harrington Avenue NE between 5th Place and 7th Place.

Although the cause and origin of the fire are unknown, the flames spread to the attic, said Deputy Fire Chief Bill Flora.

Numerous additions to the World War II-era home made the fire difficult to control.

"There's no access from inside, and there are multiple roof levels," he said of the home.

The department used foam, in addition to water, to combat the blaze.

Red Cross was called to assist the displaced family with shelter, and Renton Fire Investigators will work to determined what caused the blaze, Flora said.

King County Fire District 20 also responded.

Although the house was occupied when the fire began, everyone was able to get outside before the fire department arrived.
