Renton Teen Shot in Face While Riding in car

Police are seeking more information about a shooting that occurred on state Route 167 early Sunday morning.

A Renton teen was shot in the face early Sunday morning by an unknown gunman, reported KING/5 News.

Initially, the injury was believed to be caused by a rock that crashed through the car windshield; however, Renton Police have confirmed that the 15-year-old girl's injury was the result of a bullet.

Police first learned of the incident while conducting a traffic stop in downtown Renton.

An officer pulled over a car traveling the wrong way down South Third Street, a one-way street. 

Initially, the driver of the car told the officer that she believed a rock had come through the window and struck the teenage passenger. They had been driving north on state Route 167 near South 180th Street.

First, the driver heard a popping sound, and then saw something hit the car. That's when the girl began yelling that she was bleeding, reported the driver.

An additional bullet struck the front of the vehicle, according to a police statement. No suspect information is available and no evidence has been located.

Medics treated the teen for a "large wound on her upper cheek," and took her to Harborview Medical Center. The girl remained conscious and talking during the event. She was later released from the hospital.
