Alcohol Played Part in Near-Drowning at Gene Coulon Memorial Park Beach

Water and alcohol not a good mix.

A man in his 30s nearly drowned Monday afternoon at the Gene Coulon Memorial Park Beach.

Battalion Chief Karl Rufener said the man spent less than a minute under water before his friend pulled him to shore. Both men had been drinking.

The Renton Fire and Emergecny Services Dive Team, Engine 12, Aid car 12, Medic 5, two battalion chiefs, an MSO and two Renton Police Officers responded to the call, which came in aound 12:30 p.m.

The man, who regained consciousness after being pulled from the water, was transported to Valley Medical Center in critical condition.
