Facebook.com may soon allow allow users under 13 years old, The Wall Street Journal reports.

The article states that millions of users already fake their ages on the popular website. Allowing kids 13 and under to register with parental consent let them join without lying and could provide additional protections while learning social media safety and ettiquet.

Under the test model, parents would be able to monitor child accounts by connecting them to their own. That way, Facebook is still in compliance with federal regulations regarding children under 13 online.

The idea is still in testing, according to the Wall Street article. Facebook officials have released a statement saying they are in talks with stakeholders about keeping kids safe online.
