Seahawks 12K Draws 3,000-plus Runners to Renton

Fundraiser for Renton/Skyway Boys & Girls Club draws 3,001 people to Renton for second annual Seahawks 12K.

More than 3,000 people, in addition to dozens of dogs, participated in the second annual Seahawks 12K and 5K at The Landing this morning.

The first three men to cross the 12K finish line were Joseph Gray (37:42), Dan McLean (38:57) and Stevent Crane (39:40). The top three women were Sara Becker (43:58), Lauren Matthews (44:56) and Mattie Suver (46:56).

The first three men to finish the 5K were Shaun Frandsen (16:17), Kristofer Kornegay (16:29) and Joe Sheeran (16:37). The top three women were Regina Joyce (19:36), Anita Behrbaum (21:01) and Susan Ward (21:17).

I also ran the 12K, along with 3,001 registered participants. Only 1,900 runners participated last year. The "flat and fast" course felt less so with a slight headwind on the way back, but was otherwise a terrific course with a fabulous view and perfect running weather. This is a must-do on my 2012 running calendar.

Seahawks mascot, Blitz, mingled with the crowd and posed for photos with runners of all ages, the Sea Gals and the Seahawks dance team signed autographs, and the Seahawks drum line pumped up the runners at the half-way point by the training facility, and then again at the end of the course during the Kids' Play 60 Fun Run.

The non-competitive race is a fundraiser for the . The amount raised was not yet available on Sunday afternoon.
