Boeing, Union Agree On Incentive Pay For Increased Performance, Production

The new "Aerospace Machinists Performance Program" is in addition to other incentives negotiated in the four-year contract extension last year between Boeing and the IAM.

 

Incentives are a powerful tool.

Starting June 29, more than 30,000 members of the International Association of Machinists and Aerospace (IAM) workers at Boeing facilities in Puget Sound, Portland and Wichita will be eligible for new incentives aimed at increasing performance and production.

Dubbed “The Aerospace Machinists Performance Program (AMPP),” the new program is a key feature of the . Details of the plan, which sets targets and measures progress annually, were crafted jointly by the IAM and Boeing, according to a post on the IAM website.

“This incentive plan makes 32,000 IAM members at Boeing eligible for yearly bonuses of up to four percent of their gross wages,” said Aerospace GVP Mark Blondin. “IAM members have a deep interest and commitment in the success of Boeing. This program is designed to recognize and reward that commitment.”

All employees eligible for AMPP will receive the same payout as a percentage of their earnings over the period being measured, according to the IAM.

"This program is a good example of what the Company and the Union can do when we understand each other's needs and work together towards a shared goal." said District 751 President Tom Wroblewski.

The Seattle Times’ editorial board also lauded Boeing and the IAM Union for the agreement in its Thursday editorial, calling it “the best sort of news for people of the Puget Sound.”
