Renton had a hot news week, which included a late-morning  that displaced a family and their pets. Everyone—people and animals—escaped unharmed.

Police are still searching for several suspects involved in a  on Friday, Jan. 28 in downtown Renton. Both victims have been released from the hospital.

Across town, at , Bressler reported on the school's decision to add seventh grade next year and eighth grade during the 2012-2013 school year.

Ten-Year-old Jaidyn Lam debuted as Patch's first Whiz Kid of the week. The fifth grade, Kenneydale Elementary student will compete at the Washington Music Educators Association on Feb. 19 in Bellevue. Later this year, she will perform the Korean National Anthem at a Tae-Kwon-Do conference on Saturday, March 12 at .

Prep sports coverage this week included the Renton girls basketball Senior Night  53-37 win over the Evergreen

The Hazen Highlander boys basketball team ended their regular season play with a winning game against the Renton Indians, with a score of 65-53.
