Renton Youth Advocacy Center Grand Opening Today

The event takes place Saturday, Sept. 7 from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. in the Tiffany Park Building (1902 Lake Youngs Way SE).

Renton residents, especially those in the Cascade area, are invited to the grand opening celebration for the Renton Youth Advocacy Center today, Saturday, Sept. 7 from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m.

As reported in the Renton Reporter earlier, the resource was made possible by John Houston, the center's director and long time community leader. Houston, a former addict, was also featured in Patch's recent series devoted to inspirational stories from local communities.

According to the Reporter, the center is decked out with IKEA furniture, books, video games, large flat screen TVs and the ever-important foosball table.

"This is a huge step towards fulfilling our vision of providing a center in the Cascade area of Renton that can mentor, counsel, tutor, and give kids a recreational alternative to 'hanging out' and getting in trouble. We are still, and will always be, seeking volunteers to help make this dream a reality... it's a great opportunity to strengthen our community," said the RYAC website.

The grand opening event starts at 11 a.m. and runs until about 1 p.m. at the Tiffany Park Building (1902 Lake Youngs Way SE). Local dignitaries and board members will be in attendance, and light refreshments will be served. Come for all that plus music and prizes up for raffle.

Visit the Renton Youth Advocacy Center website for more information.
