Renton Volunteers Receive Governor's Award

Governor Jay Inslee proclaimed April 21-27 as Washington Volunteer Appreciation Week and presented 44 honorees with the Governor’s Volunteer Service Awards — including two from Renton.

“I urge all citizens to join me in recognizing and supporting those who volunteer and serve,” Inslee said.

To celebrate, the honorees were feted at an April 25 ceremony at the Executive Mansion and a Mariners baseball game at Safeco Field.

Among them were two Renton residents, Grace C. Hanson and Bryan Barnett.

Nominees were selected by AmeriCorps programs, Citizen Corps Councils, Senior Corps and volunteer centers from across the state.

“We have much to celebrate during National Volunteer Week. Washington is now ranked 9th in the country for its level of volunteer participation,” said Debbie Schuffenhauer, Acting Executive Director of the Washington Commission for National and Community Service.
