Renton-Based Company Offers Cell Phone Recycling Options

Eco-friendly fundraising opportunities available through cell phone recycling!

If you are like most consumers, chances are you have one or more used cell phone laying about in a drawer collecting dust somewhere in your home. It is with the best of intentions we tuck these items away, saving them because we MIGHT need them again later. Unfortunately what more often happens is that during one big round of spring cleaning, they get tossed in the trash. Did you know that in King County it is illegal to throw away cell phones? That is because the batteries and the phones themselves contain elements and chemicals such as lead, arsenic, cadmium, mercury, antimony, nickel, and the list goes on...

Fortunately, there is a new company, Cell Seattle based right here in Renton that can properly recycle those retired cell phones for you. You may even be able to dust off your old phone and turn it into cash for your favorite local non-profit organization. How you ask? Great question! Cell Seattle recycles used mobile phones in one of three ways - perfectly good, working phones are sold to consumers in the US. Phones that require repair are refurbished and then sold. Finally, phones that are broken, damaged, or obsolete and not economical to repair get recycled for their raw materials including precious metals here in Seattle.

Cell Seattle is seeking eco-minded partners in the community who would be willing to host a drop box where anyone can drop off cell phones or accessories to be recycled. The benefits of being a drop-off location include a link from our website highlighting your store's products and services, as well as being listed nationally on 1800Recycling.com's extensive database. Partners are also promoted using social media such as Facebook, Twitter, Blogging, etc. Cell Seattle is a member of the as well as the Newcastle Chamber of Commerce.
