Do you grow tired of asking for a well-trained worker?  Do you consistently know what habits a good worker possesses?  Do you know how to articulate what you want a worker to demonstrate to the worker, to educators, and to your business peers?

“What do we mean by ‘soft skills’?  At lunch we will learn and identify what businesses really want,” said Winfrey.

The October 9 interactive lunch discussion will include:

·         Research on soft skills – the “perfume out of the bottle” that we can “smell” but not always “see” in workforce education.

·         The history of teaching knowledge, skills and abilities and how skill standards have translated – or not – in the classroom or the workplace.

·         Ways to articulate what you want a worker to demonstrate, so you can save time in recruitment, retention and advancement.

Heather Winfrey offers 20 years of experience as a collaborator for apprenticeship, education, workforce development program administration, policy and advocacy, and partnership building.  She is the Director of the Renton Technical College Foundation, which supports students and programs.  Previously she served as Executive Director of Apprenticeship and Non-Traditional Employment for Women (ANEW), which is the oldest pre-apprenticeship designed for women in the nation.
