Renton Farmers Market Features Culinary Wonders From Renton High School, Entertainment By Bob McGraw

The market runs from 3-7 p.m. every Tuesday through September at the Piazza in downtown Renton.

Where has our summer gone? Luckily, this week's forcast is calling for lots of sunshine, so get out and enjoy our extended summer at Renton's Farmer's Market.

This week students from the Renton High School culinary program will wow market go-ers with their newfound skills and live entertainment will be provided by Bob McGraw. The market runs from 3-7 p.m. every Tuesday through September.

Ealier this month we shared a recipe for Ancho Shrimp Tortilla Cups, a perfect hot weather entree. The forcast calls for an extended summer, so here's another cool salad recipe from the Renton Farmers Marker:   

Pear and Fennel Salad

Ingredients:

  • 3 Tbs white wine vinegar
  • 1/2 tps crushed anise seed
  • salt
  • pepper
  • 1/3 C olive oil
  • 1 fennel buld, thinly sliced
  • 2 pears, thinly sliced
  • parsley
  • pecorino, shaved

Directions: 

Whisk 3 tablespoons white wine vinegar with 1/2 teaspoon crushed anise seed, salt and pepper in a serving bowl, then slowly whisk in 1/3 cup olive oil. Add 1 thinly sliced fennel bulb, 2 thinly sliced pears and some parsley; season with salt and pepper and toss. Top with shaved pecorino.
