In the week leading up to opening day of the Renton Farmers Market on June 5, Patch feature some of Renton's most prolific gardens and their caretakers.

Green is the new black.

Several decades ago the First Lady’s fashion sense made the headlines; this week it’s Michelle Obama’s green thumb and the release of her new book, “American Grown: The story of the White House Kitchen Garden and Gardens Across America.”

Part autobiography and partly a gardening “how-to,” the book also serves as an inspiration for healthy living, according to an article in the Huffington Post. There’s even a section with healthy recipes for homegrown herbs and produce.
