Eleven Renton Area Wrestlers Advance to Mat Classic
State wrestling to celebrate 25 years next weekend at Tacoma Dome.
Lindbergh's Trevonn Russel was the only Renton area wrestler to compete in the championship bout Saturday during the 2A Regional Wrestling at Bremerton.
Russel who won the league championship last week by just showing up had to wrestle his way into the championship bout at 195. He would lose to North Mason's Chase Davis 9-7.
Hazen's Malik Haythorne earned the only Seamount spot in the championship finals of the 3A 145 weight class. He was able to beat a tough Prarie opponent in his first match, followed by a victory over a Mercer Island opponent that beat him in the District Semi-finals last week. Malik took 2nd to Hudsons Bay's highly ranked Aaron Blaine, according to a Hazen press release.

The only local female wrestler, Lindbergh's Abigail Churfar will compete in the 124 bracket.
