Wolverines Keep Indians Down and Winless

Renton faced not only the challenge from Evergreen, but having to face that challenge with a depleted roster.

The Renton Indians were shorthanded as they fell to the Evergreen Wolverines 5-1. The Indians (0-9) were mostly restricted to defense as the Wolverines (4-3-2) had a shooting frenzy in both halves. Renton’s Christian Plancarte and Bryan Diaz took turns with goalkeeping duties, as starting keeper Alexiz Quintana was out due to illness.

Evergreen’s Jorge Delgado led the Wolverines with 2 goals, scoring his first goal in the 17th minute and the team’s final goal in the 77th minute. Oscar Sanchez started the game with the team’s first goal in the first 4 minutes. In the second half Daniel Garcia scored the team’s third goal, with Josue Grados scoring the fourth.

Indians Head Coach Duane Nakamura credited his team for a good first half, but in the second half his players were unable keep the momentum due to injuries and illness coming into Friday night’s game.

“We only had basically 12 players to play,” said Nakamura, “and they just wore us down.”

Renton was down 2-0 in the first half when Vladimir Hernandez put his team on the board during the 17th minute. Hernandez was able to get pass Wolverines’ Goalkeeper Jonathan Delgado to get the open look.

“We were down two goals and we fought hard to get back 2-1,” said Nakamura. “At halftime I told them we’re still in this game.”

Renton’s Cristian Martinez tried to apply offensive pressure against the Wolverines as two of his shots were blocked by Jonathan Delgado. Another shot was kicked high after Martinez stole the ball from Garcia late in the first half.

Nakamura gave credit to an Evergreen team for good game-play.

“They move the ball really well and they’re very fast,” said Nakamura.
