UPDATE - Renton Special Olympics Wins Bronze

Renton Blue Devils place third in Basketball Winter Olympics

The Renton Blue Devils won bronze this past weekend during the Winter Special Olympics game in Wenatchee.

The Blue Devils won their opening game against SK Hoosiers 30-24. However they lost their semi-final game against Skagit SunBurst 38-35 and to SK Hoosiers 32-30 to place third place and earn the bronze medal in the Masters 3 Division.

The Renton Extreme lost back to back games against Clark County Cougars 28-24 and to Community Colleges of Spokane 30-20 to earn fourth place.

The Renton Stars competed in the Teams Skills Division. They also lost back to back games against Spokane Valley Stars 97-49, and Sound Athletics 115-82.

Three Renton Special Olympic basketball teams are heading to Wenatchee, Washington for the annual Special Olympic basketball tournament beginning Friday.

The state qualifiers are:  Renton Blue Devils, Renton Extreme and Renton Stars. 

The Renton Extreme team competed in a 10-team division, single elimination format and finished first in the regionals to qualify.

The volunteer coaches are:  Melanie Thompson, Colin Edwards, and Roxanne Henry-Edwards.

Washington State Winter Games is the culmination of the Special Olympics winter season. Nearly 1,500 athletes converge on Wenatchee and Leavenworth Washington to compete over three-days in Basketball, Skiing, Speed Skating, Figure Skating and Snow Boarding.
