Renton Girls Basketball Heads to Fifth State Appearance

What will this year bring? The girls start play Thursday at the SunDome in Yakima.

Renton junior Taylor Farris wanted to make sure the seniors on the girls basketball team got back to the 2A Regionals last week, after last year's loss to W.F. West. After the game, Farris said her hard work was for those girls, and now they have to finish what was started last year.

Farris and the Indians will return to the state basketball championships for the first time since 1987, when the team placed second. In four previous appearances Renton has placed in all four championships.

Renton faces Wapato at 3:45 p.m. Thursday.

Here is the breakdown of the teams (by brackets):

Max Prep Rating - 3, Score Czar Rating - 9, AP Ranking - 3

Key Players--Briana Cordova, Darian Gasseling and Lexie Gomez are the main scorers, often around 12 points a game. Look for Wapato to double-team either Taylor Farris or Jordan Armstrong in their opener against Renton.

Renton Indians (22-4)

Beat Sumner 42-40

Max Prep Rating - 14 , Score Czar Rating - 3    AP Ranking - 9

Key Players--Jordan Armstrong and Taylor Farris are the driving force for the team. The duo can pick apart an offense at mid-court with quick steals equaling instant points. The Indians are able to get 10 points in 2 minutes with this full court pressure. Renton has many on the roster to provide depth.

Cedarcrest (Duvall) Red Wolves (22-3)

Beat Port Angeles 49-38

Max Prep Rating - 7 , Score Czar Rating - 6    AP Ranking - 7

Key Players--Susan Kenney scored 19 points in Regionals and Kailyn Campbell scored 14 points with 15 rebounds at Regionals. This is the school's first ever trip to the state dance.

W.F.West (Chehalis) Bearcats  (20-4)

Beat Archbishop Murphy 47-43

Max Prep Rating - 4, Score Czar Rating - 1   AP Ranking - 2

Key Players--Jamika Parker scored 18 points in their Regionals win and teammate Katie Hankins scored 11. This is not the same team who beat Renton last year at 2A Regionals.
