Poor Second-Half Shooting Sends Renton Into Consolation

The Indians will play Lynden at 11:15 a.m. Saturday for third place.

For just the third time this season, the Renton boys basketball team found themselves on the losing side. But Friday's loss stung, coming in the 2A boys semifinals to Pullman 51-41 at the Yakima Valley SunDome.

Renton was doing everything right in the first half, holding Pullman star Corey Langerveld to just 2 points and limiting the Greyhounds chances to get inside for a second-chance look.

The Indians were leading 26-22 at the half when Langerveld appeared to be unleashed, busting out for 11 points of his 13 in the game. Teammate David Ungerer also scored 13.

It's unclear why Renton senior Jonathan Patterson, a top scorer, only played 14 minutes, scoring 2 points, a season low.

Renton only made three field goals in the second half, despite several attempts around the hoop. Pullman's defense took charge to make sure the Indians would not get any more second-chance points.

The Indians will now face the loser of the second 2A semifinal between Lynden/Anacortes at 11:15 a.m. for third or fifth place.
