Lindbergh Football Preview: Lakewood Cougars

Power ranking – Lindbergh is ranked 106th in the state by MaxPreps.com and Lakewood is ranked 36th in the state.

Outcome - Winner hosts 2nd Round game against winner of WF West (Chehalis) vs Sequim.

 

The Lindbergh Eagles begin their fourth straight playoff appearance against the Lakewood Cougars, Friday night at Lakewood Stadium. The location of the game was approved by the WIAA on Tuesday during a walk through of the field, which is grass.

Coach Pat O’Grady says the Cougars are “just like any other football team we have faced. There is nothing in their videos that surprises us.” Last year the Eagles lost to Anacortes 28-14 in the first round and want to see the second round in hopes of hosting one more home game. Lindbergh has outscored their opponents 293-160 with 99 points scored in the second quarter.

Cameron Callen 53 carries for 433 yards and 7 TDs; 51 receptions for 678 yards and 7 TDs

Daniel Wiitanen 67 carries for 535 yards and 2 TDs; 23 receptions for 355 yards and 5 TDs

Derrick Holt 25 receptions for 444 yards and 6 TDs

Matt Stuart has a 50% pass completion rate (120 for 244) throwing for 1694 yards, 13 INTs and 19 TDs.

Lindbergh’s total scoring breakdown 41 TDs, 5 FGs,  2-2 Pt Conversions, 30 Point After Attempts. 293 points, averaging 32.6 a game.

Lindbergh’s defense has sacked the opponent 9 times for 50 yards lost.

Lakewood Cougars Bio

Lakewood is returning to the state playoff for the first time since 1994, when the school was 1A. The Cougars are in a weaker Cascade League but have overpowered their opponents, 417-99 in scoring. Their only loss was to Kings in early October; there only other challenging opponent was Archbishop Murphy. The Cougar score most of their points in the first half and fall in the fourth quarter where opponents have outscored them 53-27. They will be without Oregon State bound tight end Dustin Staton for one more week with a partial ligament tear in his left foot.

In the last two games the Cougars have changed from a passing/rushing offense to just a rushing offense.

Against South Whidbey – 47 carries for 291 yards and 4 TDs; 10 for 20, 88 yards passing and one touchdown.

Against Burlington-Edison – 42 carries for 533 yards and 7 TDs; 1 for 5, 31 yards passing and one touchdown.

Justin Peterson (#11) has completed 71/120 passing for 960 yards and 9 TDs; Rushed 77 times for 490 yards and 13 TDs; 14 receptions for 305 yards and 5 TDs.
