Liberty Sweeps Hazen Boys And Girls Basketball

Liberty 66, Hazen girls 39; Liberty 54, Hazen boys 48

The Liberty Patriots gave the Hazen Highlanders a one-two punch Thursday night during a non-league basketball game with both girls and boys playing.

In the girls game, Hazen (2-2 league, 3-4 overall) who was playing in its second game in two days was unable to slow Liberty's fast pace in the first half. Liberty (4-0 league, 7-0 overall) led 42-12 at the half. The Highlanders came out with speed in the second half, but the damage was done. Hazen did even the second half scoring 24-24.

The Highlanders were led by Airashay Rogers with 19, Liberty was led by Sierra Carlson with 24.

In the boys game, Liberty capitalized on second chance points and Hazen turn overs to beat the Highlanders 54-48. 

Hazen (2-2 league, 4-5 overall) was held scoreless for over three minutes in the first quarter. Once they settled down, they outscored Liberty 17-2 thanks in part of Liberty's 11 fouls. In the second quarter Liberty (1-3 league, 5-4 overall) capitalized on second chance points, turnovers and open baselines to close the Hazen led by two at half.

Liberty continued to score on Hazen's misfortune taking the lead early in the third quarter. The teams traded leads three times in the fourth with under fourth minutes left. Liberty took the lead for good with three minutes left. Hazen had several attempts to score, but poor shooting and Liberty out-rebounding gave the Patriots the win.
