High School Playoffs Galore This Weekend

Winners place toward districts or state; losers head home

In a rare warm sunny weekend for high school sports, all three high schools are sending teams and athletes looking for seeding toward next weeks districts or state first rounds.

Here is a schedule of events for Saturday:

Lindbergh boys tennis look towards repeating as state champions. They begin 2A West Central District play on Saturday at 8:30 a.m. at Harry Sprinker Recreation Center in Tacoma. Semifinals and championship matches will be played on May 19. Players include Alan Kwiatkowski and Joe Kwiatkowski in singles play. Adrian Villanueva/Sam Bayna and Boris Oks/Bobby Huynh in doubles play.

Lindbergh girls tennis won the Seamount League title with the boys (the first since 1994). 2A West Central District play begins Saturday at 8:30 a.m. at Harry Sprinker Recreation Center in Tacoma. Semifinals and championship matches will be played on May 19. Players include Quinn Osborn in singles; Kelly Saivong/Jeannie Joy Walters and Dwina Solihin/Maria Phan in doubles.

Hazen girls tennis sends Loan Nguyen and Lesley Wong in girls singles; Kristal Kozai and Haley Strandberg in girls doubles. Matches are at Clover Park High School in Lakewood beginning at 8:30 a.m. Semifinals and championship matches will be played on May 19.

Hazen baseball vs Enumclaw at Heidelberg Park in Tacoma, 4 p.m. Winner places the winner of Peninsula/Decatur at 7 p.m. (winner is fourth seed, loser is the sixth seed to 3A state).

Lindbergh baseball vs Franklin Pierce at Franklin Pierce High School in Tacoma, 2 p.m. Winner plays the winner of Foster/North Kitsap at 5 p.m. Eagles need three wins to make state playoffs.

Hazen soccer vs Columbia River at Highline Memorial Stadium, 1 p.m. Winner advances to next weeks 3A state tournament, loser is out.

Renton fastpitch vs Washington at Kitsap County Fairgrounds, 4 p.m. Winner plays at 6 p.m., loser is out.

Lindbergh fastpitch vs Sumner at Kitsap County Fairgounds, 12 p.m. Hazen fastpitch vs Peninsula at Puyallup Valley Sports Complex in Sumner, 11:15 a.m.

Hazen boys and girls track conclude day two of the 3A subdistrict meet Saturday at Sunset Stadium with field events at 10 a.m. and running events at 12 p.m.
