Hazen Boys Soccer Captures 2nd League Title

Devin Sando's goal in the 79th minute secures league's #1 seed.

The Hazen boys soccer team (11-0-2 league, 11-1-3 overall) have had one goal all season, to repeat as the league's champion. Friday night they achived the goal with a 1-0 shutout of Kennedy Catholic (8-1-4 league) securing the league's number one seed heading to the 3A Sub-district playoffs on May 8.

Senior midfielder Devin Sando connected on a corner kick from freshman midfielder Reyes Garcia for the only goal of the game, and Hazen's 52nd goal of the season. (Hazen has only allowed nine goals this season).

“Garcia was on the bench because of a yellow and Sando went out with a bloody nose.  These guys were playing their guts out," said Hazen Coach Ken Matthews after the win. "We put both of them back in because guys were gassed.  They made me look like a genius."
