The Seahawks continue to make waves in their second and third selection in the 2012 NFL draft. On Friday the Hawks selected Utah State linebacker Bobby Wagner in the second round and Wisconsin quarterback Russell Wilson in the third round.
Wagner, 6-foot, 241, was a productive four-year starter at inside linebacker at Utah State.
Wilson is only 5 feet 11, but had very productive stints at Wisconsin last season and at North Carolina State before that. Wilson also was selected
in the MLB draft by the Colorado Rockies in 2010.
“Am a Seattle Seahawk am fired up,” says Wilson speaking with the Seattle Media just after the pick. “Nothing better than getting ready for football game; I am getting excited to throw touchdowns in the red zone.”
Wilson says he knows of the other two quarterbacks of Matt Flynn and Tarvaris Jackson. “I know am ready to dive into the playbook and do the best I can, be a great locker room guy and help the team anyway possible.”
Adding Wilson will give the Hawks four quarterbacks to include Josh Portis.
The draft concludes on Saturday starting at 9 a.m. with two fourth round picks (106 and 114), one in the fifth round (154), two in the sixth round (172 and 181) and two in the seventh round (225 and 232). Many of the third day picks came from trades in the first and second round.
