Girls Basketball: Farris' Last Second Basket Lifts Renton to 3rd Place

Taylor Farris said all season what she is doing for the team is for the seniors who have helped her.

During Saturday's state 2A consolation game against River Ridge (Lacey) at the Yakima Valley SunDome, the junior kept her promise after a Renton timeout with nine seconds left in the game and trailing by one point.

Farris drove the ball down the far side of the court and cut back to the middle, bobbling the ball, controlling and shooting the ball. Three bounces on the rim and the Renton girls basketball found themselves with a third-place trophy.

Earlier in the fourth quarter, Renton allowed River Ridge to score 12 points in a row before scoring its first basket with a little more than a minute to play.

River Ridge took the lead 31-29 with 1:26 left in the game. Farris added a bucket to tie the game at 31-31 with 34 seconds left and a free throw for a 32-31 lead. Both teams traded turnovers, and the Hawks scored with 10 seconds left to go up by one.
