It's been three years since the Renton Indians boys basketball team has had a winning season overall. Their last league title was 2009 and last state appearance was 2010.
This year's team has a chance to win the league, district and state 2A title. A pre-season poll has the Indians ranked seventh, and they are the only team ranked with a losing record. It's also the year team that both boys and girls teams ranked in the top ten.
The Indians are led by senior forward Jonathan Patterson (avg 16.5 points a game) and senior guard Justin Pieng (avg 13.5 points a game). Renton has a total of nine seniors on the team including guard Lavelle Smith.
Renton's biggest win so far was a December 1 win over 4A Mount Rainier that finished fourth at state last year.
Renton's junior varsity squad has additional speed and shooters, currently they are 3-0.
