Armstrong Leads Renton Into State Semifinals With 38-34 Win Over Wapato

The Indians will get a rematch against W.F. West after losing to the team in last year's 2A regionals.

Renton's Jordan Armstrong had the game of her life Thursday afternoon during the Indians' 2A quarterfinal victory against Wapato.

The senior led all players with 16 points—13 of those in the first half—in Renton's 38-34 defeat. The Indians now advance to the semifinals on Friday against W.F. West at 7:15 p.m.

The semifinals will be a rematch of last year's 2A Regionals, where the Indians lost dramatically. Renton Head Coach Tim White said Sunday during the Selection Show he is "excited to see how the girls respond this year with a year's experience behind them."

W.F. West beat Cedarcrest 36-18 where the Bearcats show only 29 percent from the field in the win. This is not the same team Renton faced last year, but still has experience. Renton needs to make its free throws, only making 32 percent (possible 15 points). W.F.West made 66 percent of its free throws.

Renton wants this more than W.F.West and if the Indians can control the ball and maintain a low foul count (like today) you will find the Indians back in the championship game. Game tweets are available via the Renton Patch Twitter stream.

With Thursday's win, the Indians have secured a trophy in the state tournament—but what place will be up to the team. This is Renton's fifth appearance at state and the fifth-straight time the team has placed at state.
