PREVIEW: 2A/3A Girls Basketball Sub-Districts
The road to the state playoffs begins this week with sub-district play.
The Renton Indians girls basketball team is back to prove they belong in the state tournament starting Thursday in the 2A Sub-Districts.
The Indians (ranked 8th among 2A schools according to the Associated Press) finished the regular season a perfect 14-0 in Seamount League play and 18-2 overall with losses to 3A Holy Names (50-35) and River Ridge (46-33).They have outscored their opponents 1144 to 495 and will mostly likely face Sumner in the second round Saturday for seeding into the 2A West Central District the following week.
Renton is led by junior Taylor Farris, who averages 23 points a game. The Lindbergh girls have a tough first round game against No. 6 ranked White River.

The Eagles (7-7 league, 9-11 overall) will likely bounce back Saturday against Washington to advance to the 2A West Central District. Lindbergh is led by Connie Tua who has started nearly every game in January averaging 10.6 points per game. Alexandria Witherspoon averages 8.7 points per game.
The Lady Highlanders, just like the boys team, find themselves in a winner to district, loser out game on Saturday. Hazen (7-7, 8-12) will face off against Bonney Lake (5-6, 12-9 overall). The Highlanders, led by senior Cecilee Fernandez (9.1 points per game), must stay with Bonney Lake throughout the game and capitalize in the fourth quarter for a chance at a win.
