Renton High School Journalists Win Honors

The ARROW newsmagazine advisor and English teacher Derek Smith has also been named the 2013 Advisor of the Year by the Washington Journalism Education Association.

Renton High School student journalists and yearbook editors, accustomed to winning awards at the state and national level over the last several years, have reportedly added several more honors to the trophy case.

The student journalists were recently recognized on March 9 at the annual Washington Journalism Education Association's state conference at Inglemoor High School in Kenmore, winning seven awards.

The school’s award-winning "newsmagazine", the ARROW, was recognized for excellence in writing, editing, photography and layout/design. This year, Arrow and Illahee yearbook's photographers, artists, and reporters brought home several awards including:

• Monique Inthasone received an Honorable Mention in Photo Editing/Caption Writing
• Eloisa Bautista received an Honorable Mention in Yearbook Sports Photography
• Alex Kalinin received an Excellent in Editorial Cartooning
• Elizabeth Galvan received an Excellent in Newspaper Feature Writing
• Jose Aguirre received an Excellent in Yearbook Feature Writing
• Annie Kwan received a Superior in Visual Communications
