In a surprise turn of events, graduate student Miguel Diaz Smith turned down his award and asked the Foundation to give his $2,500 scholarship to more deserving students. Smith was able to assemble enough scholarship funds from other sources to cover his program, he told Lynn Bohart, Executive Director of the Foundation.

“Therefore, we surprised two of the other graduate students with an additional $1,000 tonight. They were thrilled,” Bohard said of Anna Graklanoff and Chandra Cogburn, who received addition funds.
