Lindbergh HS Student Tatelman Advances in Writing Competition

Anna Tatelman is vying to be named one of the best student writers in the nation.

A Lindbergh High School senior's horror story called "The Box" has earned enough votes to advance her to the second round in a national competition aimed at choosing the best student writers in the country.

Anna Tatelman's next submission could follow along the same lines, given the opening line required for the story: "Mom!  The cat died--again."

Tatelman's first-round submission in the Ladimer.com contest gave her the distiction of being one of the top 50 high school writers in the nation. The results were announced Monday.

Tatelman's next submission will be posted on the website April 5.

"We  are looking forward to finding out where Anna's creative talent will take us next," said Ladimer.com editor Tracy Alderson.

When Patch met with she said she doesn't write in just one genre, so she couldn't be certain whether the next submission would be a macabre  story, like her first one--but the opening line could lend itself to such a story.

Susan Tatelman, Anna's mother, said that she is thrilled that her daughter has moved forward in the competition.

"I am most proud of her determination, self-discipline and commitment to pursue her dreams and make them come true," Susan Tatelman said.

The senior is keeping tight-lipped about the next installment that she's writing for the competition. Renton readers will have to vote after the next story is posted.

If Tatelman makes it into the third and final round, her assignment will be to write about something positive, and she'll be one of five to win a scholarship worth as much as $3,000.

Tatelman's mother said that this hasn't been her only accolade.  She was also recently awarded a silver medal from The Scholastic Art and Writing national competition for a collection of work that she submitted for the Senior Portfolio division.
