U.S. News & World Report teamed up with the Washington, D.C.-based American Institutes for Research, a behavioral and social science research organization, to evaluate 21,776 public high schools in 49 states and the District of Columbia. The researchers awarded schools gold, silver, or bronze medals based on a number of factors including state proficiency standards and students’ preparedness for college.
While the report is dated 2012, it is based on data from the 2009-2010 school year.
