Hazen High School Senior Named Presidential Scholar

Hazen High School senior Jonathan Fortescue has been named a 2013 Presidential Scholar. Jonathan is one of only 141 students nationwide named for the honor.

U.S. Secretary of Education Arne Duncan announced the 49th class of U.S. Presidential Scholars this month, recognizing seniors for their accomplishments in academics or the arts.

Jonathan, who was also recently named one of Hazen High’s top 12 seniors, will attend Santa Clara University in Silicon Valley, California in the fall, possibly to major in biology or physics.

This summer, Jonathan will join scholars from other states in Washington, D.C. as guests of the program for National Recognition Weekend to partake in a broad range of educational, celebratory and fellowship activities including seminars, lectures and workshops with government officials, elected representatives, educators, authors, musicians, scientists and other accomplished people.
