Hazen Grad Wraps Up Miss America Competition In Vegas
Mandy Schendel was named the winner of the Judge's Choice.
Newcastle native and 2008 Hazen High School Graduate Mandy Schendel finished in the top 10 of the Miss America contest on January 11.
On the final evening of competition, Schendel was named the winner of the Judge's Choice, an on-air, surprise opportunity for the Judges to jointly select an additional contestant to compete among the finalists.
Miss Washington didn’t advance past the top-ten, but she did earned a $1,000 Amway scholarship after being selected a preliminary Lifestyle and Fitness winner. She wore a white Catalina swimsuit during that segment of the competition.

Ultimately Miss New York, Mallory Hytes Hagan was crowned Miss America 2013 at the Planet Hollywood Resort & Casino in Las Vegas. The final night of the 2013 Miss America Competition was broadcast live on ABC.
