Dr. Mary Alice Heuschel competes this week for National Superintendent of the Year

Dr. Mary Alice Heuschel is one of four finalists being considered for National Superintendent of the Year. The announcement will be made on Thursday.

It’s a big week for Dr. Mary Alice Heuschel, Superintendent of . Tonight, she will be featured on Evening Magazine’s “makeover Monday” segment on King 5 at 7 p.m. If you missed it, a short clip of the show is also online. She has been sporting her new look around town for the last week.

More importantly, on Feb. 17, she will be in Denver, where she will be one of four finalists competing to be named National Superintendent of the Year by the American Association of School Administrators at the National Conference.

Dr. Heuschel was named earlier as Washington State Superintendent of the Year for her professional dedication, community involvement, and her work for transforming schools. Dr. Heuschel has served as superintendent of the 14,000-student School District since 2006.  The other three finalists are:

Phinnize (Penny) J. Fisher, superintendent, Greenville County School System, South Carolina

Marcus P. Johnson, superintendent, Sanger Unified School District, California

Tom Trigg, superintendent, Blue Valley Unified School District, Kansas

The American Association of School Administrators will announce the winner on Thursday, Feb. 17, at about 4 p.m. (MDT) during their annual National Conference in Colorado. Patch will keep you posted. Renton is wishing Dr. Heuschel the best of luck.
