Dimmitt Middle School students rewarded for their love of reading

Local business couple, Denny & Bernie Dochnhal rewarded 45 Dimmitt Middle students with a trip to Barnes & Noble and a book of their own.

For the love of reading, 45 Dimmitt Middle School students were recently rewarded with a trip to Barnes and Noble and a book of their own. The trip came about thanks to the generosity of local business couple and community advocates, Denny and Bernadene Dochnahl. The Dochnhal's are widely known for their generosity in Renton, particularly in education.

To cap off the school year, the students hopped on the bus with their language arts teachers, John Austin and Adam Sweeney, to celebrate the success of the schools double-digit success in literacy at the state level. The students were also accompanied by the Dochnahl’s. 

Students were allowed to select a book for themselves and another book for the school library. The kids were careful with their selections and quickly spread out over the bookstore to survey what they might purchase.

According to a press release the couple paid for the school bus to take the Dimmitt students on the field trip and the cost of a personal book for each student and their choice of a book for the classroom library. Students were careful to select a book that others in the class might also find interesting, as they are very aware that many other Dimmitt students also love to read.

The Dochnahls are known for the generosity for community and educational pursuits around Renton. .

"We wanted to support good teachers, good schools & good kids," said Bernie Dochnahl. "It is important to us to relate to real people rather than putting money in the pot.  The kids and teachers were excited and so were we, two books for each student to select themselves.  They were ignited about reading, hopefully that excitement will last a lifetime."
