Cascade Principal Dr. Shannon Harvey To Open Honey Dew Elementary Next Fall

The opening of Honey Dew Elementary will change the boundaries of eight district elementary schools next school year; Middle and high school boundaries will stay the same.

. Dr. Shannon Harvey, the Milken-award winning principal at Cascade Elementary School, will become principal at Honey Dew in the fall, when the school reopens its door to more than 400 neighborhood students.

“It has been a pleasure and honor to work at Cascade Elementary School. I’ve been extremely lucky to work with such amazing parents and students, and an incredible staff. I’ve learned so much from them," said Harvey. “I will miss the Cascade community, but I know that Honey Dew Elementary provides an exciting opportunity to work with the Honey Dew community to create a school of excellence where students are able to grow academically and socially.”

Creating the boundaries for Honey Dew, located at 800 Union Ave. NE, triggers changes to boundaries for eight other elementary schools—Bryn Mawr, Campbell Hill, Hazelwood, Highlands, Kennydale, Lakeridge, Maplewood Heights and Sierra Heights. The boundaries of all other district elementary, middle and high schools will remain the same.

Boundary changed allow the District to accommodate enrollment growth throughout the district and alleviate overcrowding at the existing schools.

Parents and students can see next year’s new school assignments by clicking here and entering their address into the District's school bus stop locator page. Those new school assignments begin in September.

Honey Dew will house students that live in neighborhoods near the school. It has not been used as a neighborhood school for at least 20 years; but has been used for several kindergarten classes and to house students from other elementary schools while those schools were rebuilt thanks to voter support of past bond measures.
