Two Dozen People Utilize Renton Shelter Monday

Renton's cold weather shelter at Harambee Church will remain open through Jan. 18.

Two dozen people took refuge at at Harambee Church on Monday night. Assistance will continue on the evenings of Tuesday, Jan. 17 and Wed. Jan. 18 due to more snow and freezing temperatures in the forecast.

The shelter offers separate areas for men, women and families. All services are confidential. Catholic Community Services staff and volunteers from and the Renton community run the shelter, which is activated when temperatures plunge.

Located at 316 South Third St., the shelter will re-open at 9 p.m. and close at 7 a.m. on Tuesday and Wednesday. Food is provided at the shelter, and rules for the health and safety of all clients, staff are enforced.
