Troopers On The Lookout for Cell Phone Violators

Text or talk with a hands-free device while driving? You could face a fine of $124 for illegal cell phone use.

Although drivers know they can be cited for texting and talking on a cell phone while driving, hundreds of drivers are still stopped each month in King County alone.

In the month of September, King County troopers stopped 370 drivers for talking on their cell phones and 43 violators for texting while driving. More than half of those drivers received a $124 ticket for the illegal cell phone use.

Drivers are encouraged not to use a cell phone while driving, but if necessary, use a hands free device to help keep the focus on the roadway.
