Renton School District Hosts Public Meetings On Proposal To Sell District Property

District to hold public meetings on proposal to sell of two parcels of unused property near Hazelwood and Tiffany Park elementary schools.

The Renton School District will hold public meetings to present the plan to sell two pieces of undeveloped property near Hazelwood and Tiffany Park elementary schools. The district plans two separate community meetings at schools near each property as well as more formal School Board Public Hearings.

The district has owned the property for decades. The property at the north end of the district, near Hazelwood Elementary School, measures about 10 acres. The property near Tiffany Park Elementary School measures about 20 acres.

Both pieces of property are zoned for singled-family residences. The sites present challenging issues that have prevented the district from building a school on the land. Some of those issues include lot size, location and accessibility.

The cost to prepare both of the densely-wooded sites — with its challenging topography, site preparation excavation, clearing of trees and roots, rough grading, and myriad other costly tasks — to construct a school would result in an excessive expense for district taxpayers.
