Renton School District, City Seek Input On New Accessible Playground

New playground located in the Renton Highlands to level the playing field for children with disabilities.

The and the are teaming up to develop an accessible playground, where children of all abilities can enjoy an outdoor play structure. The equipment is also ideal for caregivers with special needs.

On Thursday, June 28, the community is invited to express what they’d like to see at the future playground, which will be located on the North and the properties, according to the City.

Accessible  playgrounds are a growing trend among major and growing cities across the Untied States. There are at least two play areas that cater to special need children in Seattle, at Alki Playground and Beacon Hill Playground, according to Seattle Parks and Recreation.

Salmon Bay School in Seattle underwent a similar public open house process to design its accessible playground last year, according to the West Seattle Herald. Their playground is slated to open in the fall of 2012.
