City Of Renton Erroneously Sends Collections Notices

Did you receive a collection notice from the city and believe it was in error? Tell us in the comment section, below.

Benson Hill residents and other Renton garbage customers on the quarterly billing schedule received pink collection notices for accounts not past due.

“A certain number of collection notices were sent out in error,” said Preeti Shridhar, City of Renton Communications Director.

Shridhar couldn’t say exactly how many customers received the notices, send in December, but assured Patch that they were sent to “a relatively small number of folks. These are the people who live in the Benson Hill area, for the most part, and those who received quarterly billing for their garbage, and not the monthly, which the rest of the city gets.”

More information was not available during Patch’s initial inquiry on December 21 because the person who managed utilities billing had suffered a death in the family, she said.

Patch also left a message with the utilities billing department on December 21. As of January 4 our message had not been returned.

Shridhar encouraged customers who believed they received the collection notice in error to call the utilities billing department: (425) 430-6852.

“There is no overdue and it is an error on the part of the city,” she said.
