Renton City Attorney Larry Warren Earns Prestigious Municipal Law Award

Larry Warren was lead counsel in Renton v. Playtime Theatres, a landmark decision in 1986 by the U.S. Supreme Court that protected the city's right to prohibit adult theaters from operating within certain areas.

City Attorney Larry Warren has been named the recipient of the 2013 Ernest Campbell Award for excellence in the practice of municipal law, the highest distinction conferred by Washington State Association of Municipal Attorneys (WSAMA). This award is the equivalent of a lifetime achievement award in the practice of municipal law.

“It is a profound honor to win this award from one of Washington’s most respected organizations,” said City Attorney Warren.

Mr. Warren has served as Renton’s City Attorney for over 30 years and has made significant contributions to WSAMA. He was lead counsel in Renton v. Playtime Theatres, resulting in a landmark decision by the U.S. Supreme Court. He is a frequent speaker at legal seminars, and has served on the board of several legal organizations and has received the highest rating from Martindale-Hubbell, the most trusted source for identifying qualified legal counsel, for his legal ability and ethics.
