Meet Your Renton Neighbors, Embrace Diversity

City's Neighborhood Program Hosts Panel Discussion on Wednesday, Oct. 5 from 6-7:30 p.m.

How well do you know your neighbors?

During the last two decades, has grown to encompass a wealth of diversity.

Twenty years ago, 83.5 percent of the community identified themselves as white, and in 2000 the number decreased to 68.1 percent, according to census numbers.

Today, just more than half, or 54.6 percent, of the Renton community is white.

City officials are keenly aware of the changes taking place and are taking steps to ensure that Renton’s diverse community can work together in good times ( and the to name a few), and in bad ().

To foster good relations and strong communication among Renton’s culturally rich community, the City’s Neighborhood Program’s upcoming quarterly meeting is themed “Embracing the Diversity in Our Neighborhoods."  

The meeting will take place on the 7th floor of on Wednesday, Oct. 5 from 6-7:30 p.m.

Kevin Henry, Communications Coordinator for Cultural Diversity, City of Bellevue; Renee Emerson, Evendell Neighborhood board member, City of Renton; and will lead a panel discussion.
