Letter: Renton Residents Getting the Shaft on Library

Dear Editor,

How has King County Library System (KCLS) shafted Renton residents? Let us count the ways:

  1. KCLS plans to take away your downtown library entrance over the Cedar River.
  2. KCLS plans to shrink your downtown library space by 30%
  3. KCLS refuses to listen to your voice. 76% of voters and people at public comment meetings said: Keep the Entrance. Don’t shrink the Library.
  4. KCLS says there is now only $5 million of the $9 million bond available for actual construction of a renovated library—where has the other $4 million gone?
  5. KCLS plans appear to take out an old, regal Cherry tree next to the library
  6. KCLS has thrown out huge dumpsters of Renton library books and materials since it took over the library—refusing to donate them to charity—denying them a recycled, new life to foster reading and enjoyment for others.
  7. KCLS seems to think it doesn’t have to be responsible to residents and to Renton taxpayers who are paying for all this.

If you think any of this is wrong, you must speak up now! Decisions are about to be made that will change our library forever. Go to www.SaveRentonLibrary.com today and help Save your Cedar River Library.
